HEP Energy Auditor Exam Preparatory Course
HEP Energy Auditor is based on a National Renewable Energy Laboratory/U.S. Department of Energy Job Task Analysis (JTA) of the same name. The course is broken down into two days of instruction focusing on the job description/duties outlined in the JTA.
Students in class will be offered this occupation-specific training, which is part of an overall curriculum aligned with the topics within the Home Energy Professional Energy Auditor Job Task Analysis, to provide additional and supplementary training in preparation to challenge their exams. These skills include but are not limited to: (1) conducting a precise energy audit of the building, (2) collecting the required data to create a comprehensive report on the energy consumption, (3) create a detailed work order outlining the benefits and pay back of recommended energy conservation measures, (4) understanding specifications and standards, (5) performing building and safety diagnostics, and (6) recording/reporting findings and concerns and communicating effectively with the client. Students will also explore: (1) tools that are provided by BPI during the written exam, (2) tools that are necessary and/or should be used during the field exam, (3) additional resources that will help a student pass the exams, and (4) effective strategies to assist students as they challenge the exams.
State-of-the-art technology along with traditional techniques are used in both the classroom and the field to provide students with a high-quality learning environment.
Students will be offered quizzes and exercises to refresh their memory and provide examples of questions that may be seen on the Building Performance Institute Inc. (BPI) written exam. One final assessment exam will be given at the end of the class to further test their Energy Auditor knowledge and skills. Upon successful completion of this exam, each student will receive a certificate of completion. Student learning will be assessed using quizzes, instructor observation, field activities and an exam. This assessment is to benefit both the instructors and students in identifying areas requiring additional improvement.
